Imagine a warm, welcoming place where families and friends can feel a sense of peace, and share in the wonderment of seeing the blue Pacific Ocean stretch out, uninterrupted, from South to West to North. The pictures don't lie: you have probably never been in a private home with views like these, and they are yours to enjoy from the pool, the plunge pool, the den, both dining areas, the bedrooms, the lanais… you get the idea. Lots of glass here: it's floor to ceiling in most of the house. Connoisseurs of eye candy, fanatics for light and space, welcome! You're home.
The property is surrounded by gorgeous tropical vegetation (see photos), lovingly tended since 1992 by the one and only Dwayne Richmond, landscaper extraordinaire. There aren't many better ways to start a day than having your coffee on one of the garden benches, surrounded by Dwayne's beautiful plants and flowers. (The vegetation isn't just pleasing to the eye, but also provides privacy, and a lot of it.) If it's raining, or if you just want a different perspective, sip your java while taking in the amazing treehouse view from the upstairs lanais - it's awesome.
To minimize GMH's carbon footprint, most of our electricity comes from the PV panels on the roof; power is stored in an Enphase battery array- the first in the state of Hawaii.
All four bedrooms are en suite- each has their own private bathroom. Revel in the privacy, but don't worry about feeling too isolated; the central, common areas of the house, with their seamless, simultaneous feeling of connection, integration and open space make you understand that this is a home, waiting to be lived in. The spacious kitchen and dining areas provide comfortable, light-filled places to eat indoors or out; all give expansive views of the Pacific. The main dining room has a handmade David Reisland table (see photos) which comfortably seats ten in a space which admits light, breeze and view to give you the feeling that you are one with the ocean and the sky.
There is Timborana hardwood, marble and porcelain on the floors. All are gorgeous: once again, the pictures don't lie.
The pool (70 feet long) and plunge pool both face the ocean: same incredible view you have from the inside, only now there's sky over your head. Want to swim in the ocean? Drive ten minutes to White Sands (La 'aloa) Beach. Want to snorkel and see gorgeous fish and sea turtles? Drive seven minutes to Kahalu'u Beach.
Keauhou Shopping Center, with its restaurants, shops, movie theaters, supermarket, drug store, and urgent care clinic is three minutes away. Craving more shops, restaurants, beaches, or resorts? Fifteen minutes to Kailua Village. Willing to drive a little longer? Visit Volcanoes National Park and the South Coast to witness our incredible planet's fiery heart. Want to experience some of the best sunrises, sunsets, and stargazing in the world? Go to the top of Mauna Kea. Let's face it… this place is awesome and magical.
Now that you're back home, you're tired and no doubt want to rest up for the next day's activities. Seems a bit on the warm and humid side though (there are many ceiling fans, but they're not quite up to the task), and you've always had some trouble sleeping in those conditions. Don't sweat it- just turn on the brand new air conditioning. Each bedroom is a separate, independently controlled zone, as are the common areas. Now that you've stopped sweating, want to watch HBO (or anything else) as you pass out? Sit in one of the leather recliners in the den and become a zombie in front of the 70" high def t.v. Or, if you want to watch from the comfort of your own bed, no problem- there's a new high def t.v. in every bedroom too. Other features include free landline calls to anywhere in the U.S. and Canada, and new washer and dryer.
This is a home worthy of its magnificent surroundings, where memories to last a lifetime are created.
